Intraperitoneal noxythiolin and povidone - iodine in experimental peritonitis
The efficacy of intraperitoneal noxythiolin and povidone-iodine was compared in mice and rats with induced Gram-negative peritonitis. Noxythiolin 1%y solution reduced the mortality of mice from 65 to 41%y (P<01) but was ineffective in rats. Povidone-iodine (6-0-7-5 mg available iodine/kg body weight) significantly reduced the mortality of both mice (P<0001) and rats (P<0.01) in treated animals ...
متن کاملPovidone-iodine as a sporicide.
Thioglycollate Broth Medium was used for culturing the test bacteria. Thioglycollate Broth Medium containing 0.5% sodium thiosulfate, O.S^o Tween ® 80, and 0.07% lecithin was used as the transplant medium. The sodium thiosulfate inactivates free iodine which mav be carried over. The Tween ® 80 and lecithin serve as inactivators for the quaternary compounds and hexachlorophene, and thioglycollat...
متن کاملPovidone-iodine prophylaxis of ophthalmia neonatorum.
O phthalmologists practising in the developed world at the beginning of the 21st century may be surprised to learn that visual loss from ophthalmia neonatorum was once a major public health problem. In England in the mid-1800s, there was a hospital devoted solely to the lavage of infants with gonococcal ophthalmia. Fortunately, the work of Crede, who developed prophylaxis with 2% silver nitrate...

An adequately sized pneumatic tourniquet with wool padding was used and a clear adhesive drape applied circumferentially around the thigh to isolate the tourniquet. A 10%...
متن کاملThe ocular application of povidone-iodine.
The use of antiseptic agents to prevent blindness was not a self-evident development. It evolved over a number of years to the point that one antiseptic agent — povidone-iodine — is now used throughout the world, every day, to prevent blindness. The possible effect of iodine on the eye was first appreciated in 1951 when a reduction in ocular flora was reported following the application of iodin...
